Installing laminate flooring can be a cost-effective way to improve the appearance of a room. This guide provides simple, step-by-step instructions to help you complete the project on your own.
Preparation
Before starting, gather all necessary tools and materials. Ensure the subfloor is clean, dry, and level. Measure the room accurately to determine the amount of laminate flooring needed.
Remove existing flooring and baseboards if necessary. Allow the laminate planks to acclimate in the room for at least 48 hours.
Installing the Underlayment
Lay down the underlayment across the entire floor area. Overlap the edges and secure with tape to prevent shifting. The underlayment provides cushioning and moisture protection.
Plank Installation
Begin in a corner of the room, placing the first row of planks with the tongue side facing the wall. Use spacers to maintain a gap of about 1/4 inch from the wall for expansion.
Connect each plank by clicking the tongue into the groove of the previous row. Stagger the seams between rows for stability and appearance. Cut planks as needed to fit along walls.
Finishing Touches
Remove spacers and install baseboards or molding to cover expansion gaps. Clean the floor to remove any debris from installation.
